Isla Mujeres Marriage Proposal | Engagement Photography | Mohammed + Felicia

The Cliffs of Dawn, also known as Punta Sur, is the southern tip of Isla Mujeres and the most romantic setting for a marriage proposal you could ever find. Just a short 20 minute ferry ride from Cancun, this tiny island was the destination Mohammed decided was ‘the place’ to propose to his longtime girlfriend, Felicia.

Mohammed told Felicia that he had hired me to do a couple’s photo session. I met them in the parking lot of Punta Sur and we made our way all the way out to the end, past the temple built to the goddess Ixchel and down the stairs to the lowest level of the cliffs. I wanted to allow Mohammed to propose at the beginning of the session as I’m sure the ring was burning a hole in his pocket and he must have been nervous. We quickly made our way to the exact spot he had selected. I told him when I asked Felicia to look away from him, it would be his cue to get down on one knee which he did, but then a family decided to come into photo range so he quickly jumped up before Felicia figured out what was going on. We took some ‘fun’ photos while letting the family pass and quickly got back into position. This time, it went off without a hitch! Felicia turned to see Mohammed on one knee holding a beautiful diamond ring. I think she was a bit in shock when she first realized what was happening, but quickly became the happiness girl in the world! As he put the ring on her finger, tears of joy and happiness fell from Felicia’s eyes. It was the most tender, happy and goosebump moment ever!

After the initial “I DO” moments, I went up to them and congratulated the newly engaged couple and told Felicia that Mohammed and planned the whole thing and that we were now going to take their engagement photos! As we walked around the cliffs taking photos, they shared their love story with me. This great couple actually dated in 7th grade and it was Felicia’s very first kiss ever! They parted ways after that, but reconnected through Facebook and have been together for the last six years. Now that they are engaged and will be married, Mohammed will be Felicia’s last kiss ever too! Romantic? Absolutely!!!!!

After some time taking photos at Punta Sur, we jumped in my golf cart and headed over to Nomads, a new hostel on the island for some more photos. We ended on the beach for some sand, ocean and sunset photos. After our session, they headed across the street to Samura, a new Japanese restaurant on the island for dinner before heading back to their all-inclusive in Cancun.

I couldn’t be happier for this incredible couple! My heart sores with joy they found each other again after so many years from that first kiss in 7th grade.
